What does “short term” mean?

Short term means 1-2 weeks of outreach. Our short terms teams are one week long, but some individuals choose to stay for up to two weeks at a time. See our calendar for exact dates.

What do short term teams do?

Our short term teams do outreach in garbage cities and remote, impoverished regions of Mexico City. The outreach is a mobile unit comprised of medical, dental, optical, hair care and children’s areas. Each work day, the mobile unit moves to a different location, with the hope of providing care for as many people as possible around the city.

What does the week look like?

Day 1: Arrive in Mexico City
Day 2: Orientation, shopping and sorting of supplies
Day 3: Outreach near a garbage city
Day 4: Outreach in a garbage city
Day 5-7: Outreach at churches, debriefing last night
Day 8: Travel home

Who can be on a short term team?

Everyone is needed! Please view our list of volunteers to see where you fit in.

What is the cost?

Application fee - $25
Land fees 1 week - $750
Land fees 2 weeks - $1350

How is it financed?

Many teams and individuals send out support letters to family and friends or have fundraisers to help cover the cost. Please contact the home office if you need or have any other suggestions!

Who makes the travel arrangements?

Teams are expected to make their own travel arrangements to the airport in Mexico City. Individuals traveling alone can contact the home office if they would like OSI to make their travel arrangements.

How can I join?

Can I coordinate a group?
